2002 Pentagon Ceremony Pics
The following photos are from Michael Almond, Project Manager for
Jefferson Millwork & Design. Michael worked on the rebuilding of the
Pentagon following the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Below are photos of
the 2002 Pentagon Ceremony, along with Michael's original email with his
thoughts on that day.
"In reviewing your web page today, I noticed the 9/11 Tribute page. To most
of us, the 2 years since the attacks have gone very quickly. To others of
us, including myself, we were honored to participate in the re-building of
The Pentagon with the goal of a 1-year completion. The American construction
workers accomplished that goal, and because of the efforts of all of the
contractors and sub-contractors who participated in this remarkable
contruction accomplishment, we were rewarded with being allowed to attend
President Bush's ceremony at The Pentagon on 9/11/02. I believe that for
most of us, the sites and sounds of that day and the days that followed will
always be imbedded in our mind. As I sat there in the early morning before
President Bush's arrival, in the early morning I thought of AJ's hit that
year, "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)," and I reflected on
how far we've come since that day. While Diamond Rio's current song, "I
Believe," had not been written at this time last year, I had often remarked
to others, that all of the flags were constantly waving and it appeared as
if the 189 souls of the victims were swirling around the ceremony that day
to show that they were still there with the same American pride--reminding
us of what that flag stands for.
I have attached several pics from the ceremony on 9/11/02 for all, because
after all, you are our nation's Hometown Country Station. Jim London's
playing of the national anthem at 12noon each day indicates not only the
stations' love for country music, but our great country as well."
